Prayer for a New Dean
Almighty God, look graciously on the people of St. Peter’s Cathedral. Be with us and lead us as we seek the next Dean for our church. Enlighten with your grace the Search Committee. We ask for discernment, wisdom, and guidance. We pray for whom you guide to our parish, that they hear your calling and join our congregation swiftly, with joy in their hearts. We pray for the life of our parish, that we may joyfully continue to be strengthened in our mission to “Love God and Our Neighbor and Make Disciples for Christ.” Give us courage to respond and act as you lead us. We pray this through Jesus Christ our Lord.

The Search Committee met September 10 and October 3 to continue developing content for the formal posting of our Dean position with the Diocese and national church as well as our parish profile. Photos are still being solicited for inclusion. Please email them to spchsearch@gmail.com.

Summarized highlights from our online parish survey that was open July 17 through Aug. 7 are now available here. We had 124 responses! Thank you for your time and thoughtful input! Please send questions or additional comments to spchsearch@gmail.com. A summary of comments received during the Aug. 14 and 18 listening sessions will be forthcoming.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the recent parish survey. We 124 responses! Awesome! We will provide a summary of the responses soon. Please plan to attend one of two upcoming Listening Sessions on Wednesday, August 14, at our Wonderful Wednesday gathering or on Sunday, August 18, after the 9 am service, to help answer thought provoking questions that will be used to develop our parish profile and advertise our opening to interested candidates. ​Wonderful Wednesday starts at 5:30 p.m. with a potluck. The main dish is provided. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share. The Listening Session will begin at 6 p.m.

Let us hear your voice! Click here to participate in the Parish Survey to help guide the search for our next Dean. We ask every church member who is at least 12 years of age to complete the survey by the end of the day on August 7. If you cannot do so electronically, you may pick up a paper copy at the church office, have one mailed to you, or fill out the survey by phone with a Search Committee member. The Search Committee meets July 9 to finalize the parish survey, which we hope to make live later this month. We'll also be working to develop the parish listening sessions and content for our parish profile based on input received through the sessions and survey. Stay tuned!

Our new dedicated Dean Search web page will help keep everyone informed about ongoing activities as we discern God's will for our church. This page is intended to be a one-stop-shop for the latest news and updates. It will also be where we link the upcoming electronic Parish Survey for completion. Stay tuned!
We received more than 60 comments during our recent Easel Board Q&A exercise in the fellowship hall. Barbara Hoag recorded each for our records. She summarized the most common areas of response as follows:

As we begin preparations for our updated Parish Profile, we will need photos of special events at St. Peter’s. These can be from last year through this summer, and would include social concern programs, Bargain Basement, Capital Campaign events, church picnics, children’s programs, photos of St. Peter’s building and grounds, etc. Should you have a good photo or two of our parish life that you are willing to share, please send them to spchsearch@gmail.com. The Search Committee’s work has begun! Be on the lookout for regular status emails, an updated website with a dedicated page for “Dean Search”, and notes in Happenings. Check out the new Search Bulletin Board in the Undercroft (with many thanks to Ida Jaynes)! As our committee proceeds through its initial study period and begins reaching out to the congregation to gather information for our Parish Profile, we will look to each and every one of you to be a part of this important work. The committee met with The Rev. Canon Mikayla Dunfee, Canon to the Ordinary, on April 30th. Canon Mikayla described the Diocesan Search Process and shared search resources. As we meet over the next months, we will plan our steps for conducting a parish survey and listening sessions. Together, with regular update emails, a bulletin board in the Undercroft, an updated website, and announcements during Sunday services, the committee will keep everyone informed. Trust to the Search Committee
On April 23rd, 2024, the Chapter adopted and signed its “Trust to the Search Committee”, outlining its expectations for the planning and conducting of the search process to call a new Dean to St. Peter’s.
